The venerable, much loved Schafberg cog railway will take you up the Schafberg (alt. 1783m) in style and in comfort.<\/p>\n

Austria’s steepest steam-powered cog railway has been taking visitors up the Schafberg from St. Wolfgang ever since 1893. In just 35 minutes, it covers a difference in altitude of 1190 metres and a distance of 5.85km all the way up to the Schafberg summit. The historic steam-powered engines are among the oldest engines in the world that are still in operation. But a trip up Schafberg mountain is an unforgettable experience even with a modern-day steam engine.<\/p>\n

The Schafberg (1783m) is one of the most stunning panoramic mountains in the Salzkammergut region, renowned for its scenic beauty. On a clear day, the summit offers a 360\u00b0 panoramic view over the glittering lakes of the Salzkammergut and the foothills of the Alps, such as Lake Wolfgangsee, Irrsee, Mondsee, Fuschlsee, all the way to Chiemsee in Bavaria! The majestic mountain peaks of the H\u00f6llengebirge, the Dachstein and the Watzmann ranges make the perfect backdrop to the gorgeous lake-studded landscape.<\/p>\n
